Europe Looks the Other Way on Algeria's Elections

Algeria is holding elections in July 2026, but the country's opposition parties are being squeezed out. Most European leaders aren't complaining, though—because they depend on Algerian natural gas to power their homes and factories. Since 2022, that energy supply has become so vital that Europe is willing to overlook problems with Algeria's democracy.
