Fewest Americans Seeking Jobless Help in 57 Years
197,000 Americans newly applied for unemployment pay, down 1,000, Reuters reported Oct. 1. That is the fewest in 57 years, and the fourth week under 200,000. People still collecting fell to 1.701 million, fewest since April 2023. I see this as families keeping paychecks, not more hiring. Slow hiring leaves little safety net if job cuts rise.
