UK youth jobs plan costs £134,000 per job created, study finds

A proposed tax break removing National Insurance charges on young workers would cost the Treasury £5.1 billion yearly but create only 38,000 jobs, the Resolution Foundation found. That works out to £134,000 per job — far higher than targeted subsidies. Much of the money goes to employers who would hire young people anyway, wasting resources rather than genuinely boosting employment.
