China's Fastest Supercomputer Now Beats America's

China has built the world's fastest supercomputer, called LineShine. It performs calculations about 21 percent faster than the previous leader, a US system called El Capitan. Both are installed at major research centers and measure their power in exaflops—roughly a billion billion calculations per second. The key question now is whether LineShine's raw speed actually helps scientists solve real problems like climate prediction and artificial intelligence training.
