England's Childbirth Injury Rates Going the Wrong Direction

Serious injuries during childbirth are rising in England instead of falling. In 2024, nearly 29 out of every 1,000 mothers experienced significant tearing—up a quarter since 2021. The NHS promised to cut these injuries in half by 2025. That deadline passed. Hospitals aren't using the same proven safety methods, and midwives are stretched thin.
