Myanmar's Military Loses Control of Most of the Country

Myanmar's government army now controls just one-fifth of the country, while rebel groups and resistance forces hold two-fifths. Since a military takeover in February 2021, armed groups once limited to border areas have spread far inland, seizing territory the military once held. Neither side is winning decisively: the army cannot govern reclaimed areas, while rebels cannot unite to hold what they've taken.
