Japan Is Raising the Cost of Getting a Visa

Starting July 1, 2026, Japan will charge much more for visitor visas. A basic visa jumps from about $20 to $105. A multi-year pass goes from $40 to $210. This is the first increase since 1978. Japan is bringing its fees in line with other countries, like the European Union. The cost rise covers decades of inflation in staff, technology, and security.
