Uganda Stops Kenyan Lawyer From Defending Opposition Leader

Uganda blocked Martha Karua, a top lawyer from Kenya, from entering the country on June 22. She was supposed to defend Kizza Besigye, an opposition politician, in court. Without her, Besigye's legal team walked out in protest. The trial continued without anyone defending him. Uganda gave no reason for the ban—a move that bypasses the court system.
