Rare long-distance tornado tears through Mount Vernon, Illinois

A tornado on June 11 near Mount Vernon, Illinois traveled roughly 20 miles on the ground—far longer than typical storms in the state. It destroyed 300 homes and 50 businesses in the southeast part of the city.
