China Still Controls the Rare Materials the U.S. Needs

China controls the rare earth minerals that power everything from smartphones to military weapons. Despite recent promises to ease restrictions, China's export controls remain in place as of June 2026. American factories making semiconductors, defense equipment, and electric vehicles can't find these materials anywhere else yet, stranding their supply chains.
