Colombians elected conservative lawyer Abelardo de la Espriella president in a close vote Sunday, rejecting the leftist direction of outgoing president Gustavo Petro. De la Espriella favors closer ties with the US on trade, drug policy, and handling Venezuela. When he takes office in August, he'll work with a divided congress that limits how quickly he can undo Petro's labor protections and pension changes.
