Colombia's Election Could Change How the U.S. Works in South America

Colombia held a runoff election on June 21 between two very different candidates: far-right Abelardo de la Espriella and leftist Iván Cepeda. De la Espriella is expected to win, and if he does, he would likely shift Colombia's approach to neighboring Venezuela, change how it fights drugs, and pick new international partners—moves that matter across the entire region. Cepeda would have continued the policies of outgoing president Gustavo Petro.
