Labour's Josh Simons won the Makerfield seat on 4 July with 45.2% of votes. But Reform UK's Robert Kenyon came second with nearly a third of the vote—an unusually strong result in an area Labour has held for decades. Voters in northern England are shifting away from the Conservatives towards Reform, which focuses on immigration and public services.
