5.004% is the pay for lending to the U.S. government for 10 years, up 0.067 on Sept. 15, the Wall Street Journal reported. Think of it as Washington’s mortgage rate. When it rises, home and business loans get pricier too. Investors bet Fed rates stay high as the economy holds up and normal rates stay higher.
