People Hold Hands Around Kennedy Center to Protest Closing Plan

More than 6,400 people held hands in a long circle around the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., on September 18, 2026, organizers said. The event, called "Hands Around the Kennedy Center" and put together by Hands Off the Arts, protested the board's vote to shut the building for repairs for up to two years.
