Indonesia Gets Its First Giant Plane-Carrying Warship

Indonesia now has its first huge warship that launches aircraft. The old Italian ship Giuseppe Garibaldi reached the Tanjung Priok naval base in North Jakarta on Sept. 18, 2026, with a military ceremony. The 41-year-old ship, retired by Italy in 2024, will serve Indonesia as KRI Gajah Mada. Indonesia is now Southeast Asia's second country after Thailand to have one.
