Former Syria Prison Chief Gets 60 Years in America

A U.S. court in Los Angeles sentenced former Syrian prison boss Samir Ousman al-Sheikh, 73, to 60 years on Sept. 17, 2026. Judge Hernan D Vera decided after ordinary citizens on a March jury found he hurt prisoners on purpose and lied on papers to enter the U.S. He moved to the U.S. in 2020 and was arrested in 2024.
