Dangerous Bird Flu Found on Remote Australian Island

A contagious flu virus that affects birds and animals has been detected on Heard Island, an uninhabited Australian territory far southwest of Perth. Scientists found it in dead seals and other wildlife starting late 2025. The virus hasn't spread to mainland Australia yet, but officials are watching migratory birds that fly between the island and Australian coasts.
