US stocks to rise as central bank lifts borrowing costs

US stocks were set to start almost 1% higher Sept. 17, 2026, Reuters reported, after the Fed — America's central bank — raised rates first time in over three years. It lifted its target to 3.75% to 4%, up a quarter-percent, or 25 basis points. Cheaper oil, lower government borrowing costs and healthy jobs numbers came with the jump.
