A clever checklist shrinks AI memory use

BITCOS shrinks AI settings limited to -1, 0 or +1 to 1.485 bits each on the emptiest of 29 tested models, Evangelos Georganas, Alexander Heinecke and Pradeep Dubey said in a 14 September early paper. Like a checklist, it notes which settings count separately from plus or minus, beating the 1.585 log2(3) and 1.625-bit five-trit marks.
