US Central Bank Raises Cost of Borrowing

The Federal Reserve, America’s central bank, unanimously raised its main interest rate by a quarter point to 3.75%-4% on September 16, 2026. It’s the first increase since July 2023 and the first led by Chair Kevin Warsh. Like a price for borrowing money, that rate influences loans nationwide, so credit is set to get tighter.
