Burnham scraps ID plan to lower electricity bills

Prime Minister Andy Burnham said he scrapped a planned digital ID — like an online proof-of-age card — in the days before taking office. He said the money would go to cost-of-living help instead. The BBC reported it was switched in the first few days to lower VAT, the tax on top of household electricity bills.
