Tiny plastic pieces in farm soil can carry, like tiny rafts, chemicals, farm sprays and germs, a five-year EU-funded project found. Researchers say the outside of the plastic held more genes that help germs resist medicines, and farm sprays made it worse. Smaller bits picked up more. This can upset how nutrients move through earthworms and other life in soil.
