4.98% is the interest rate Washington now pays to borrow for 10 years, Bloomberg reported, in early Asia trading. It topped 5% on September 14, the first time since October 2023. Think of it as the base price for borrowing that lifts mortgages and business loans. Sitting just below 5% still squeezes borrowers.
