Parties can't agree on who checks election spending plans

Labour and National both want an independent group to check whether parties' election promises add up financially. They disagree on how it should work. The Greens suggest a Budget Officer should publish these costings for all major parties. No one's settled the details, and the 2026 election is coming fast — so there's little time to sort it out.
