Panama Canal May Allow Only 29.5 Ships a Day From October

Panama has proposed allowing 29.5 ships through its canal a day on average from October, down 18% from 36 in August, because of El Niño, a pattern that brings drought. The shortcut carries 5% of world sea trade and about 40% of U.S. boxed shipments. El Niño should peak later in 2026, the strongest in 40 years.
