Why Fighting a Group in Yemen Would Take Many U.S. Ships and Planes

U.S. officials say fighting Yemen's Houthi group would take many warships and warplanes. The Houthis have disrupted ships using the Red Sea, a highway for world trade, since 2023, saying it supports Palestinians in Israel's war in Gaza, and in June 2026 threatened to bar Israeli ships.
