Nearly 5% was the U.S. government's cost to borrow for 10 years, before dipping, MarketWatch reported Sept. 11. Borrowing costs in the U.S. and Europe stayed near multi-year highs after inflation came in high. For households, that tends to mean higher mortgages and loans, but higher interest on new bonds.
