Defence Secretary steps down over military spending shortage

John Healey, the minister in charge of defence, quit the Cabinet on 16 June. He told the Prime Minister the government isn't spending enough on the military to keep Britain safe. Military leaders had warned of a £28 billion shortfall—money that won't be there—over the next four years. Healey said enemies won't wait for the government's budget plans.
