Running AI computers with gas could cost $20 billion a year in health harm

Former EPA officials, from the agency that limits U.S. pollution, warn electricity from burning gas to run the computer buildings behind AI could add at least $20 billion a year in health costs from dirty air. The warning is in an Environmental Protection Network report, 'The Hidden Health Costs of AI Data Centers,' citing 30 federal actions since January 2025.
