Japan's main stock index, the Nikkei 225, jumped from about 43,460 in September 2025 to roughly 66,400 by September 7, 2026 — a 22,000-point rise, per Reuters and WSJ. Companies that make computer chips drove nearly all of that gain. Every WSJ report flagged chip stocks as the main reason the market moved. That heavy reliance cuts both ways.
