Health Minister blocks Medical Council leaders' reappointment

Health Minister Simeon Brown has rejected the Medical Council's recommendation to reappoint its chair Dr Rachelle Love and deputy chair Simon Watt. Brown said the Council was becoming distracted by politics and ideology. Health professionals are concerned this breaks a long-standing practice and could let ministers interfere too much with the Council's independent work.
