Drones Are Killing Most Civilians in Sudan's War

UN research from May 2026 found drones killed at least 880 civilians in Sudan between January and April—more than 80 percent of all civilian deaths. Both sides use unmanned aircraft to strike distant targets without holding territory. The problem: drones cannot tell soldiers from civilians in crowded areas. One February strike on a shelter for displaced people killed 26.
