School Attacks More Than Double in Three War Zones

Nearly 8,600 attacks on schools and universities occurred in 2024—almost twice as many as in prior years. Three places saw the worst damage: Gaza and the West Bank, Ukraine, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Each faces intense military conflict. The jump is real, not simply the result of improved record-keeping.
