Roy Hattersley, Labour's second-in-command through years of election losses, dies aged 93

Roy Hattersley, the second-most senior figure in the Labour Party from 1983 to 1992, died on 14 June 2026 aged 93. He stood beside party leader Neil Kinnock through four election defeats when Labour faced collapse. Later, Hattersley became a widely read political commentator, regularly speaking out about the party's direction until his death.
