UK threatens to ban social media for under-16s unless platforms get safer

Britain's Prime Minister called major social media companies to a meeting in April 2026 with a blunt message: make your platforms safer for children, or the government will ban them for anyone under 16. The warning follows new powers the government gained to police online safety. Australia already bans under-16s from social media. The UK will now decide whether to pass a law doing the same.
