UN Peacekeeper Killed in Lebanon as Ceasefire Splinters
A Hezbollah mortar attack killed a UN observer stationed in southern Lebanon on June 4. This violates a 2006 agreement that ended fighting and required UN monitors to keep the peace. The killing will push the UN Security Council to act and may persuade countries—Italy, France, Spain—to pull out their peacekeepers. Without international observers, violations become harder to stop.
