Belgian official warns criminals use Airbnb-style rentals to hide drugs and more

Belgium's drug commissioner Ine Van Wymersch says gangs rent Airbnb-type apartments to secretly store drugs, weapons, cash, and people. Police found 3.3kg of cocaine in a Brussels Airbnb in early August 2026. Van Wymersch wants rental platforms to do more to stop abuse. Airbnb says criminal bookings are an "extreme minority."
