Ebola Spread for Months Before Anyone Knew, WHO Says
The World Health Organization says Ebola was quietly spreading in DR Congo from February 2026 but wasn't announced until 15 May. Doctors first mistook it for malaria or typhoid — diseases with similar symptoms. This Ebola type has no approved vaccine. By 7 August, 4,294 people were infected and 1,960 died. A WHO leader said: "The virus is ahead of us."
