Al-Qaeda-linked group attacks Mali army base using drones
An al-Qaeda-linked group called JNIM claimed the August 9 attack on Mali's San military base. The army said militants used drones, heavy machine guns, and armoured vehicles to break in. AFP reports at least 10 soldiers died. The army says it killed about 40 fighters but temporarily pulled back. If confirmed, drone use by such a group signals a worrying new step in their capabilities.
