UK bail suspect elected MP in Pakistan, complicating extradition

Rukhsar Ahmed, arrested at Manchester airport in July 2024 on suspicion of raping and trafficking underage girls from care homes in the 1990s, was released on bail after a judge rejected police travel restrictions. He flew to Pakistan and won a seat in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir assembly for PM Shehbaz Sharif's PML-N. The UK has no formal extradition treaty with Pakistan.
