1,500-Plus Parent Visa Applicants Died Waiting, Home Affairs Data Shows

Department of Home Affairs data shows more than 1,500 people died before receiving an Australian parent visa in the 21 months to 31 March 2026. Contributory parent visas now take roughly 15 years and cost nearly $50,000; the non-contributory stream carries a 33-year wait. The queue has outlived the applicants. Labor called this system "broken" in opposition. In government, it has only grown.
