
Ceasefire Progress Reported, but Vague Wording That Doomed June Truce Persists
Qatar and US officials reported in early August 2026 that mediators are making progress toward a ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The obstacle is the same one that collapsed the June 17 memorandum: vague wording Iran disputes. Tehran rejected an Omani proposal on the strait and insists on shared control with Oman. A 60-day transit corridor through Omani mediation remains under discussion.
