US Drafting First Ban on Chinese Datacenter Optical Transceivers
The FCC is drafting a ban on imports of new Chinese optical transceivers — photonic modules enabling high-speed data transmission inside datacenters — Reuters reported on August 4, 2026. US officials aim to publish the measure this year, though it could still be modified or shelved. Chinese firms hold a majority of the global transceiver market. China's embassy said Beijing "will take all necessary measures" in response.
