
US trade body warns Australia's expanded news levy could provoke Trump administration response
The National Foreign Trade Council — whose members include Meta, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Apple — has warned Australia's expanded News Bargaining Incentive could draw a Trump administration response, calling it a "coercive and discriminatory" tax on US companies. The pushback lands amid increased tariffs on Australian goods and Albanese's plan to raise the tariff issue directly with Trump.
