Special Forces officer rejected 1,585 Afghan resettlement applications, approved none — 884 later overturned
A British Special Forces officer personally rejected 1,585 Afghan resettlement applications in weeks in 2023, approving none. The government later overturned 884 of those decisions. The Defence Committee said the overturned proportion "demonstrates the seriousness of that failure." The government closed ARAP to new applications in 2025. The defence secretary now faces a legal challenge from affected Afghan personnel.
