Reform UK Councillor Charged Under Communications Act, Pressure Mounts on Party's Disciplinary Process

Reform UK councillor Glenn Gibbins, 66, of Sunderland, has been charged under the Communications Act 2003 over a 2024 social media post referencing the Nigerian community. The CPS authorised the charge; police were alerted in May 2026, the month he was elected. Labour chair Bridget Phillipson has demanded Farage explain why Gibbins was reinstated after an internal disciplinary process. He appears at South Tyneside magistrates on 21 August. Reform UK now fields over 1,400 councillors across 14 councils.
