
Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Surpasses 5,000, Three Weeks After Twin Quakes
Venezuela's confirmed death toll from the June 24 magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 twin earthquakes reached 5,069 on July 18, up from 188 a day after the quake. National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez gave the figure. About 20,000 people remain displaced. The coastal state of La Guaira, home to Venezuela's main airport and seaport, suffered the worst destruction.
