AWS Billing Portal Bug Showed Customers Estimates Up to $2.5 Billion

Amazon confirmed a bug in its AWS billing computation subsystem that displayed inflated cost estimates to some customers on July 17, 2026, with figures ranging from millions to close to $2.5 billion for a single month. Amazon stated the estimates "do not reflect actual usage and charges." A rollback failed; the issue was expected to persist for several hours.
