Japan's Imperial Line Rests on Three People — and One 19-Year-Old's Future Children

Japan's parliament passed a bill to relax imperial succession rules as the pool of eligible successors has shrunk to three: Crown Prince Fumihito, 60; his son Prince Hisahito, 19; and the emperor's 90-year-old uncle. The 2,600-year-old monarchy's line would end if Prince Hisahito does not have a male child, despite the bill allowing adoption of distant male relatives and letting female royals keep status after marrying commoners.
